Steirerfrucht GmbH
Approximately 350 agricultural contract operations supply the company with a total of 32,000 tonnes of apples and various sorts of summer fruit. Steirerfrucht stores, sorts and packs fruit up until the month of August of the following year and sells to larger retail companies in Austria and abroad. According to sales volume and seasonal trends, the number of employees ranges between 90 and 150 people. Export is exclusively in the hands of the EVA-Handels-GmbH company.
The history of the Steirerfrucht enterprise started in 1990 with the merging of the fruit departments of five fruit marketing co-operatives, namely Feldbach, Graz-Liebenau, Ilz, Hartberg and Weiz, for the purpose of joint storage, sorting, packing and marketing.
EO "OPST"
“OPST” stands for “Obst Partner Steiermark GmbH”. Around 1000 fruit producers deliver annually about 150,000 tonnes of eating apples, 3000 tonnes of pears and 2000 tonnes of plums to consumers’ tables. This happens in closely contractually regulated collaboration with 11 marketing partners (“contract marketing” – packing houses). “OPST” is Austria’s only producer organisation for the production and marketing of apples, pears and plums, recognised in accordance with the EU market regulation (EC) 2200/1996.
The basis for successful marketing is an innovative production policy aligned with market requirements and giving quality assurance the highest priority.
